Gallery
Welcome to the Secondary Modern Gallery. Here you will find pictures of things I love, have seen and/or been inspired by. Often it will feature images that I don't have room for on the blog, and sometimes there will be overlap with my Pinterest site. It's not a 'beautiful photography' showcase, although hopefully I'll manage to take a decent snap once in a while.
If you've got a picture you'd think I'd like do send it in. In true Vision-On style I will try to display as many as possible but unfortunately I cannot return any (hmmm, doesn't quite work in these days of digital media!)
I love the patterns, light and colour in this window in the Doge's Palace in Venice.

This museum has some incredible medieval paintings. I've been a bit obsessed by icons and medieval art since I was a teenager - I love the colours, the simplification and the graphic qualities. They've been very inspirational to my drawing style.

I love, love, love foreign supermarkets, although they are gradually losing their 'difference'.
Old shop fronts are so fascinating and an absolute mine of retro typography.
This is pretty standard house/shop numbering in Venice and I really like the way it contrasts with the engraved shop sign here.
Fabulous 1950s/60s cafe sign. It's great how European signs don't seem to be updated as often as in the UK: either they can't be bothered or they realise how wonderful the original stuff still is.
Great colours.
The UK isn't all bad - there are lots of original features in the Grainger St market, this being just one. The whole place has barely changed since I grew up there.
We were at a Steve Reich concert at the Royal Festival Hall (which, you may not be surprised to learn, is one of my favourite public interiors) and there are so many lovely patterns and colours in this image.
Royal Festival Hall. I really like the way the man in yellow pops out at you.
